Beach Safety with the RNLI

29th April 2025

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ivo and Leon from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), who delivered an inspiring and informative session all about beach safety. The children were completely captivated as they learned how to stay safe while enjoying our beautiful coastline—something especially important for families living near the sea.
During the session, the children discovered the meanings of the different beach flags, how to identify safe swimming areas, and what steps to take if they or someone else finds themselves in difficulty in the water. They also got a fascinating look at the lifeguards’ essential equipment and how it’s used in real-life rescue scenarios.
Ivo and Leon were incredibly impressed with the children’s attentiveness, enthusiasm, and thoughtful questions, and they left with a big smile, commenting on what a pleasure it was to speak with such engaged young learners. They also mentioned they hope to see everyone enjoying the beach safely this summer!
This visit couldn’t have come at a better time, as all our pupils are currently taking part in swimming lessons as part of this term’s PE curriculum—a truly essential life skill, especially given our coastal location.
Why not ask your child what they remembered from today’s session? They may be able to tell you which flag means "safe to swim," or what they would do if caught in a rip current. These are important conversations that can make all the difference.
A big thank you to the #RNLI for their vital work and for helping our children become more confident and safety-aware when enjoying the water!
