Sustainability in Action
As a school we have been considering different ways we can take positive actions. We know it is vital to have school champions to lead the school and community wide change- this is where our UNICEF Steering Group have been key . One of our strategies is linked to the food and catering services we provide for the children. The initiative we set ourselves was to choose a local and sustainable food company to provide daily lunches. Our action was for pupil representatives to be involved in choosing a sustainable food company and feedback and review the process. So, last November the AnDaras Trust set up a food tasting event for pupils across the schools at their central offices. Mrs. Furber took up the Y6 Steering Group representatives and they were all lucky enough to try lots of delicious food and share their views . Their favourite company Aspens won the tender and , from tomorrow , our school kitchen and daily lunches will be sourced, prepared and delivered by them. Payment for lunches is the same via the online school money system. As well as the menu being on the website ,a copy of the menu and a 'specials' board can now also be located in the main entrance for your information. The whole school will be reviewing the process and we can then use this to inform future provision.
