Three Tors Challenge

23rd October 2024

A Wild Adventure.
Today a group of 12 KS2 children arrived at school very excited about the adventure that lay ahead of them. They have been in training this half term for their trek of the 3 Tors! All arrived well prepared with their kit and enthusiasm.
The team had been very well prepared and trained by Mrs. Lindsell from Arena Sports who also accompanied the children today. Here is her report of the day...
"When we arrived there were lots of exclamations about how high the Tors were and would we still be able to breathe up there - I promised them there would be oxygen even at the top! We started with a well walked first leg with the boys taking the lead navigation with the girls bringing up the rear.
We arrived at Showery Tor in good spirits and fine form. Heading over to Brown Willy we had some trips and slips into the bog getting a little wet on our trip... and a very muddy foot for some! The girls took lead navigation for the leg to Brown Willy and did a fine job, We then had lunch and a moment to pause and appreciate our surroundings, several of our group decided to draw what they saw to capture the memory. The final Tor was Rough Tor where it was wonderfully windy and wild at the top and we found a fun route down through a ‘tunnel’. The final leg back down the group were looking forward to getting back on the bus to rest their weary legs!!!"
We are immensely proud of all the team . They demonstrated excellent leadership and relationship skills and our learning powers of resilience, resourcefulness and respect were well and truly in action. A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Lindsell for all her fantastic support and Mr. Gilbert for supporting the children during their after school training club. Go Team St Stephens .
