Launceston Mayor’s Induction Ceremony

19th June 2025

Mrs Furber and our two Year 6 Youth Councillors, Finley and Jessy, were delighted to be invited to attend the very special Mayor’s Induction Ceremony held today at Launceston Town Hall.
From the Town Crier’s opening call to the procession of dignitaries and official guests — including Town Councillors and community members receiving well-deserved recognition awards — the ceremony was full of pride and celebration. The wonderful Launceston Town Band played beautifully throughout, adding a joyful and uplifting atmosphere to the occasion.
On a personal note, it was a pleasure to see Mrs Joan Heaton, our incredible Chair of Governors, in her official role as a Town Councillor. We were also proud to see other councillors who have generously supported our school, including Cllr Margaret Young and Cllr Adam Payton, both of whom have championed resources and events for our pupils.
A particularly proud moment for our school community was watching one of our parents, Garath Lancaster, receive a special award of appreciation for his outstanding fundraising work for Sarcoma UK — an inspiring achievement!
Finally, we were absolutely thrilled to see some of our former pupils playing in the Town Band, a clear sign that their love for music continues to grow and flourish.
We wish the newly inducted Mayor, Cllr Nicola Gilbert, and her Consort, Mr Peter Gilbert, every success in their new roles. You are always very welcome at St Stephen Community Academy.
