Welcome

Welcome to Class F/1 at St Stephens Community Academy!

Hello and may we be the first to welcome you to our school.  Class F/1 is where it all begins! Our team is made up of Mrs Hobbs and Miss Wonnacott, who are our class teachers, and Miss Caines and Miss Sobey who are our class Learning Support Assistants.

Foundation stage is all about laying the foundations for lifelong learning.  We work to develop children’s skills in the Prime areas of learning. These are Personal, Social and Emotional development (PSED), Communication and Language (C&L) and Physical Development (PD).  By creating a firm and well-rooted base in these Prime areas of learning children develop into mature, well-rounded individuals who enjoy learning and are ready continue their journey throughout the school and beyond.

Our curriculum is a mixture of adult led and child led.  We plan some of our learning by following the children’s interests.  We spend a lot of time outside in our wonderful school grounds riding bikes, climbing banks, mixing magical potions and building camp fires. This provides children with the opportunity to develop team working skills, communication, physical skills and most importantly the time to be a child in a safe and secure environment.

As well as this, the year 1 children will have full access to the year 1 curriculum. Home learning menu's for the year 1s will be changed half termly, in line with the learning themes and the content that the children will be covering. These can be found in the 'home learning' section of the website. Home learning books are to be handed in by Wednesday which will then be marked and handed back on a Friday.

We really value reading at St. Stephens and our expectation is that all children should read at home on a daily basis. In KS1 this includes the children reading one of their school phonics books (or home books) to an adult at home, or an adult sharing a book with their child.

We hope you and your child are very happy at St Stephens School. We love our school and hope you do too.  If you need any additional information about St Stephens, please feel free to contact us.
