What's in My Bucket? (Attention Autism)

Many of our children are learning to develop attention skills. To do this, we use Attention Autism- an approach created by specialist speech and language therapist Gina Davis. It uses activities which are motivating, to create a shared experience. It helps children to understand and respond to a structured, adult directed routine and gives them an irresistible invitation to engage in an adult directed activity.

It aims to develop attention and listening skills at an appropriate developmental level, as well as social communication skills, such as taking turns or using vocalisations.

In Class 7, it is known as ‘What’s in my bucket?’ or ‘Bucket Time’. We learn to sit around the leader and join in the song together, looking forward to finding out what is in the bucket.

We then get to take turns at an activity. Over time, the children learn to attend for longer, to remain in seats and follow instructions.

As you can see, we all really enjoy ‘Bucket Time’.
