Art Day - 3rd December 2024

Today was art day, so we all needed to be Dynamic Designers!

First of all we watched a clip on the BBC teach website: KS1 Geography: Oceans - The plastic problem - BBC Teach. It talked about plastic pollution in our oceans and seas. Miss Wonnacott then read us a story called 'Little Turtle and the Sea' which was all all about a turtle who becomes lost and then trapped by plastic pollution.

Miss Wonnacott showed us all of the soft plastic recycling she had collected at home and we discussed what would happen if this was not recycled appropriately.

We looked at some art work produced by a local artist, 'Bonnie Steward.' She collects plastic pollution from local beaches and then uses this to create her pieces of art work. We could spot some wrappers we recognised, like a Lotus biscuit wrapper, and packaging from Tesco!

We each made a jellyfish using scraps of old paper and Miss Wonnacott's plastic recycling for the tentacles. We then painted the 'sea' for the jellyfish to swim in to produce a great collaborative piece of art.
