Coding

Year 1 have been exploring coding as part of their computing this half term. We have been working really hard over the past year and are far more independent with logging onto J2E, accessing different programmes and saving our learning. We are also able to open up the correct folder to locate our saved learning!

This week we have been exploring algorithms and creating our own code so that different 'sprites' will follow our instructions! This has been very exciting! Here are some of the things the children have had to say bout their learning:

- I used my phonics to write 'space' to save my learning.
- I put in left, right, forward, forward and the flag appeared on the planet!
- I had to put instructions in to tell the rocket what to do.
- I think it was really fun, algorithms sounds like a tricky word but it wasn't actually once you understand what it is!
- When you press 'pen down' a little red line follows behind you and shows you the journey you have been on!
- I typed in too many instructions and my rocket went off the screen. I watched it and saved it and then started again when I knew where I had gone wrong!
- I planned a route for the camel to do a lap around the desert. At the end, I went to the hole in the sand and water appeared! It took a lot of instructions.
- I know when I log on, I need to press J2Code to access the coding we were doing.
- If you don't save your learning it won't be there next time!
