Science - taste testing

In Year 1 we have been exploring the five senses. We explored our senses using our outside area, discussing what we can see, hear, touch, smell and taste.
"I can hear an aeroplane but I can't see one!"
"I can see the chickens...If we are quiet, we can hear them too!"
"I can touch the bark on the tree, it's rough."
"I can smell the flowers. They feel wet from the rain."
"We tasted the raspberries that are growing!"

We then explored the sense of taste further,  using a variety of different foods to investigate whether they were salty, bitter, sour or sweet. We found out that sometimes they were a combination of tastes and that we didn't always share the same opinion as our friends.

"The fudge is sweet but it is a bit salty too."
"The cocoa powder tastes a bit like coffee powder... does that mean it's bitter? I don't like it!"
"I love the cocoa powder... it's a but sweet like strong hot chocolate."
"The celery is not sweet!"
"Lemons are sour but I love them!"
"I'm not sure about the cranberries... I don't think I like them."
"The apples are sweet and a little bit sour in parts."
