Healthy Hearts and Healthy Minds

17th July 2024

All pupils in years 3,4 and 5 have taken part in the Healthy Hearts Healthy Minds project this year. This has focused on developing the children's knowledge in how to maintain a healthy heart and how to promote their well being. The project has also developing the children's understanding of coping strategies when dealing with different situations. This may be anger, anxiety, working as a team or trying a new activity to develop a new skill. Children have been involved in using their five senses to connect with nature and learning the importance of taking notice. They have taken part in a variety of interactive activates including senses quizzes, team building and problem solving activities.
This term they have been focusing on their super hero powers and learning strategies to deal with anger using the A,B,C's of anger management and how to cope with situations they are worried about. The children have learnt how to solve challenges as a team and what to do if they feel upset in a difficult situation. The project has covered a broad range of areas and has looked at the 5 ways of well being. The children have enjoyed the interactive activities they have taken part in and the chance to work through different scenarios.
This programme was funded through the PE premium and from a funding bid secured by the PTFA. Arena has delivered these sessions and will develop this further next year through a 'Nature Nurture Programme'.
